Ballantyne estate planning attorney Sabrina Winters is urging fellow community professionals to join the fight against breast cancer. In doing her part, she has pledged to donate a portion of her earnings for the month of October to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate in Charlotte.
The numbers are staggering,” says Winters. “As many as 10 million people could die from this disease within the next 25 years. We have to come together and act now,” she says.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Charlotte recently hosted the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in uptown, where more than 14,000 people were on hand to help raise awareness and raise more than $1.3 million to find a cure.
But Winters points out that the charity is accepting donations all month long, and is urging others in the community to contribute and help raise even more funds before the month is over.
Winters is quick to point out that approximately 75% of the money raised by the Charlotte affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure helps fund breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs to underserved women right here in Charlotte. Her donation is yet another example of her desire to help women in need. As an estate planning attorney in Ballantyne, she focuses on helping women through a unique approach she calls Legacy Planning.
In addition to her donation, Winters suggests Charlotte residents explore their ability to donate to Komen for the Cure through Workplace Giving.
“Many employees don’t realize that they can contribute to Komen through payroll deduction options, since Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a new member of Community Health Charities.” She says this is a great way to donate because many employers will match your personal donation, which results in more funds for the cause.
Winters says if you’re not sure if your company offers Workplace Giving, you should contact your employer’s HR Manager to find out. She says you can also contact her directly to find out about the possibility of tax benefits for making your donation.
